Readymix Holdings is committed to recruiting and developing talented, hard working graduates for future leadership roles within the company. The Readymix Training Program, aimed at recruiting and developing future leaders, was launched in 2002. The Technical Training Program, aimed at recruiting and developing future leaders for critical technical positions within the Readymix business, was launched shortly afterwards.

Both programs rotate trainees through all Readymix core business areas (quarries, concrete, technical and sales), giving tour people hands-on experience supported by project work and assignments.

The start of 2004 marks the launch of the Humes Training Program, aimed at recruiting and developing future managers within the Humes business.

Readymix, Technical and Humes trainees come together twice during their program for intensive skills training workshops. Topics covered include Readymix Holdings values and operating rules, safety, sales, technical, finance, leadership and quarterly review presentations. Other talented graduates within the business who are not part of the Trainee Programs are also selected to attend. The participants have thoroughly enjoyed the challenging coursework, and the opportunity to network with each other and senior management.

Recruiting new talent

Rinker Materials has a long-standing tradition of bringing in new talent to the company as management trainees. Trainees learn the business from the ground up over a period of three to five years, and many present upper level managers are a product of this program.

Currently, all divisions of Rinker Materials have management training programs and hire management trainees. Rinker Materials has established relationships with the major universities in Florida and selected other schools with industry-related majors, such as the University of Missouri-Rolla (mining engineering) and Middle Tennessee State University (concrete operations management).

Rinker attends about five career fairs a term and conducts oncampus screening interviews with students who have indicated an interest in us. About 12 to 15 students ‘make the cut’ and get the opportunity to attend an interview for job openings with the region and human resources management. Of these, about six to eight students get job offers; only about 1 in 100 students get offered a management trainee position.
